British Pakistani plastic surgeon Dr. Mohammad Jawad’s journey to Pakistan in 2008 opened his eyes to the devastation of women who had been brutally burned by acid attacks. Having just handled a high-profile acid attack against British model Katie Piper the previous year, Dr. Jawad was drawn to these women and their stories. He offered his surgical skills and starting treating dozens of women each year, reconstructing not only their faces but their lives.
During this captivating conversation, Dr. Hathout and Dr. Jawad discuss the Oscar-winning documentary “Saving Face,” which tells his story. They also pay tribute to the heroic women who share their stories in the documentary that also is a 2012 MPAC Media Award honoree.
